Not very scary but for this year’s Halloween party, Hello Kitty donned her black wig and transformed herself to Aloha Kitty!
A hardboiled egg is Kitty’s head with nori for hair, flowers are watermelon radish, tomatoes, and takuan. Thai black rice, romanesco (my first time!), enoki mushrooms and shiso leaf recreate her tropical paradise!
Happy Halloween everyone!

Our carb-fest continues!
You can make an omelet out of almost anything… why not an omu-chowmein?
Shoyu chicken and the last (for now) of the amber cup squash are perfect compliments.
And since it’s near Halloween, I placed a token “Jack” cut from a watermelon radish.
Green onions and nori provides the finishing touch.

I was shocked as I have quite a stash of cute bento gear and miscellaneous Hello Kitty stuff. I guess in my mind I merged the two collections and assumed that at least one of the boxes represented our “Queen of Kawaii”… Hello Kitty! But I was wrong and very dissapointed in myself.

It seems like I’ve been dragging my feet to uphold my end of the bargain and recreate the winning recipe from our recent “M4SB Giveaway” winner Lauren (Lumi)! But I promise it was just me being a “space-cadet”… do people still use that “term of endearment”?
