Meatless Monday Bento 7

Posted on August 15, 2011 by Debra

I swear Mondays come around more often than any other day of the week!

And here it is again.

The upside is that I get pack a vegetarian bento for Saba Man.  Today’s lunch, or I should say dinner because Saba Man is working an oddball shift today, is a melange of previously fried tofu, asparagus, carrots, sesame, shoyu, mirin, ginger and garlic.

I’ve separated this mix from the hapa-rice with plastic baran; something I don’t normally use but glad to have because I’ve run out of fresh lettuce of shiso leaf.

Champagne grapes, cherry tomato and a pinch of beni-shoga complete this meal-to-go!

Mandarin-Mango Rice Bento 6

Posted on June 14, 2011 by Debra

I have a basket in my pantry that holds all my non-perishable bento-stash.  And currently, The Stash only held numerous baggies of different kinds of rice, not enough to cook on their own and needed to be blended to make it worthwhile.

I also had an oddball can of mandarin oranges which for the life of me can’t remember why I bought it. Maybe Saba Man picked it up for something.

“Hey Saba Man…did you buy this can of mandarin oranges?”

“No.”

:)

So I took a chance and boy and I glad I did.  It smelled wonderful when it all got  heated up.

After the “ding”,  I mixed in a bit of sweet mango butter, almonds, and a splash of rice vinegar all the while wishing that I had cilantro.  Darn.

Anyway, it turned out great.

Tangy.

Which complimented the salty, sesame-ness of these Asian-style tuna burgers.  :)

Recipe will be posted later but think garlic, sesame oil, sesame seeds, shoyu, mirin….you get the idea.

“Hey, Saba Man…do you want butter on your asparagus and the scallions caramelized?”

“Yes, please.”

I am having so much fun being a  part of Kitchen-Play‘s “National Onion Association”  Progressive Party.  This Progressive Party will feature six different courses created by six different bloggers using Fresh Dry Bulb Onions . There are many varieties of this onion and for this recipe I selected, because I live in Washington State,   the Walla Walla Sweets®!  A very large one.

Olympic Mascot Miga Bento Box 19

Posted on February 12, 2010 by Debra

We are looking forward to these Winter Olympic games up in beautiful Vancouver BC, Canada and are seriously thinking about attending one of the events.  We’re just a mere 3 hours away from the closest venue so we figured “why not”?   However,  after initial investigation of hotel rates etc. our grand scheme may not come to fruition.  Our favorite hotels up north have tripled their charges!
