I know what you’re thinking. Where’s the sandwich?
It’s actually deconstructed.
Garlic naan.
Butter-poached mahi mahi.
Lettuce.
Tomatoes.
Saba Man could choose to assemble when ready to eat!
Which he did. And he immediately text’d a message declaring that he should be called Mahimahi-Man for the day!
He enjoyed it.
And he loved the squash, corn, bean and red cabbage salad. There was enough vinaigrette to coat the lettuce leaves so he ate it all. The bento box was completely empty upon return!
Mahimahi-Man indeed.

I love veggies.
I wish, I wish, that I had loved them when I was a kid. All those wasted meals, staring at a plate of glorious carrots, string beans, or bell peppers. Wishing that we had a family dog that would “clear my plate.”

Definately not a bento but I want to share this awesome dessert that I created for our latest #twitterfoodparty which took place yesterday on Twitter!
The theme was squash hence the hashtag was #twittersquashparty! If you’re a tweeter go on and check out the other mouthwatering photos!
The next one is #twitterhotdogparty which sounds like a lot of fun don’t you think? Won’t join in with your own hot dog photo?
See you on Twitter!
Oh…this scrumptious looking treat is a simple pureed butternut squash with honey, mixed with plain Greek yogurt, then topped with cinamonon, sugar and a crisp kabocha squash chip!

Thanks to all that submitted. The selected B.O.M.B. is here!
Recent posts have featured one of my favorite things to eat— squash! I just love’em, don’t you? Especially the winter squash types like ambercup, red kuri and of course pumpkin!
So let’s celebrate the Season of the Squash with a tribute…a theme.
With that, I declare November’s B.O.M.B. theme….Squash!
It doesn’t have to fancy or even autumn-like. If it’s zucchini you prefer, then go for it!
Do you salivate at the site of simmered kabocha ? Show us!
Be as creative as you’d like.
Just add your link and describe your bento in the comments. I’ll post the photo for you.
If you don’t have a photo hosting site, you can email them to me. Just remember to leave a comment so I know where to place it.
Thanks!
The November B.O.M.B. guidelines are:

Wow, it’s been a long time since the last bento box post! But vacations are now over and we are all back to work. To ease his way back to the grind…Saba Man will be taking a “comfort food” bento lunch of chicken adobo and rice.

I must be in a “roasting” phase because today’s featured bento box contains broccolini that is prepared using the same roasting recipe as yesterday’s roasted broccoli post . This time I was able to add the parmesan so today’s veggie isn’t as naked. The broccolini though is a bit daintier than the it’s robust cousin so it took no time at all turn crispy brown. I caught it just in time before it started to burn. Read the rest of this entry →

Today’s bento box features salmon soboro over rice, (yes it’s the White Rice) roasted delicata squash and shoyu wasabi boiled eggs. I almost always have a bento stash of salmon patties in the freezer. Either homemade or store bought. They are easy to reheat for immediate consumption and perfect for a bento box. For today’s lunch I crumbled one of the patties and made a soboro.
