Rest easy, Saba Man and I have not gone back to eating meat. It’s only seitan not real beef. My twitter friends and I do a monthly food theme and February’s was Oranges and after posting my photo of Orange “Beef” and Broccoli, there were requests for the recipe.

It was a whirlwind week folks! I took a short trip to Vancouver BC., received out-of-town visitors, and took in the sights and sounds of Seafair; Seattle’s annual celebration of boats, planes and summer-time fun!
Now we are back to reality with another start to a busy work-week! And without missing a beat I somehow managed to pull together a Meatless Monday bento for Saba Man using a combo of leftovers and bento-stash. Read the rest of this entry →

More Meatless Monday fun!
Today’s bento contains a rice combination that started out as a hodgepodge of ingredients that didn’t have a direction but ended up being very tasty!

Okay first off, Saba Man says these look like sausages. This was not my intention. I wanted them to look like medallions.
What do you say?

It’s a double-whamy of love today! A meatless bento for heart-healthy awareness plus a Valentine theme. A very subtle tribute to love with a heart-shaped radish slice. Read the rest of this entry →

No I’m not drunk. I realize it’s not Monday, but this is the bento I made on Monday…late Monday. I ran out of awake time and so it’s a day late.
Saba Man exclaimed…” why do we need meat?” after his first bite! That’s a good sign don’t you think? Maybe someday he will be a full-fledged veg-head like me. Hehehe…
But I seriously doubt it, as there’s one thing that this island guy can’t resist…

Today’s bento is following a trend I’ve been noticing on the social networks…”Meatless Monday!”
I never gave it much attention because being a vegetarian myself, everyday is meatless! Read the rest of this entry →

Quickly posting this snack bento featuring shoyu seitan, brown rice, broccolini, tomato and a grape!
What’s shoyu seitan? It’s wheat-meat prepared using my shoyu chicken recipe.
A twist on the ole “chicken and rice” standard.
Not trying to fool Saba Man…he knows it’s not meat and lucky for me, he likes it.

Does this look like chicken? Maybe teriyaki or barbecue styled? Not even a little bit?
But lest you think that I’m trying to pull a fast-one,…Saba Man actually likes my wheat-meat (seitan) creations!

Let’s continue our “bento-stash” series with seitan or as some folks call it “wheat meat”. However, for today’s bento… I’m calling it “pseudo spam”!
