After packing SM’s lunch in my new Keep Cool Bento Box, I realized that not only is this box great for summer because of it’s ice-pack feature, but it’s perfect for back-to-school too!
I’m making a mental note to feature this bento in future BTS post, although this could be considered for the same…especially if your child likes what’s packed!
Today’s lunch consists of noodles in the form of Korean Chapchae, white rice, kamaboko omelet, snow peas and a pan glazed lotus root!
Our summer weather is just now starting to heat up so this box will come in handy for sure!

Today’s Meatless Monday bento features, fried then simmered tofu! I buy the already fried tofu from one of my favorite shops in The I.D … I’m fortunate to have access to many tofu sources…then I simmer them in the usual teriyaki-type sauce. They’re full of flavor yet remain light and very un-greasy!
Along with the tofu…hapa-rice, simmered bok choy, sweet pototo, lotus root and a broccoli-tomato salad.
Hope everyone had a nice weekend! We finally had a warm and cloudless sky here in Seattle yesterday…but don’t be jealous…we are back to normal with gray skies, rain, low temps and a bonus…thunderstorms!
Have a Happy Meatless Monday!

Something very different for Saba Man via one of his long-time friends and co-workers.
We don’t fish but luckily we have many outdoorsy friends who kindy supply us with locally caught salmon, shrimp and trout…like this one in today’s bento lunch.
Freshly caught and smoked too!
Saba Man is saved from yet another tuna burger bento. Heh…
Complimenting the heady flavors of smoked trout are sweet teriyaki lotus root, sesame egg omelet and asparagus. The hapa- rice (half brown, half white) is topped with furikake.
There seems to be an overflow of cherry tomatoes at the market and I think I found the most perfectly round, ripe and luscious orb…just for this lunch.
Enoki mushrooms are more than garnish. Their non-flavor will mellow out some of the stronger items.
And that’s it for a Fish Friday bento!
Have a fantastic weekend.
Be safe and have a marvelous Independence Day celebration!
We are going to check out some fireworks…how about you?

I occasionally receive emails remarking on how small my bentos are for Saba Man…”does Saba Man eat little meals?”

Chinese long beans are yummy! And no need for special prep, peeling, or exotic seasoning! Really.

I couldn’t decide what to name this post and was going to start numbering the bentos like some blogs do. And in hindsight I think it was a very smart move on their part. Read the rest of this entry →

Saba Man fields comments and questions about his bentos daily so he asked me to pack an extra large bento so he could share it with co-workers. I honored his kind gesture with this creation.
