Color Corn Snack Bento 10

Posted on January 15, 2010 by Debra

Today’s featured bento box besides more colored corn… contains kamaboko which means it’s a Saba Man bento.  But truth be told I hardly ever pack snack bentos for my own consumption.  I just toss fruits or carrot sticks in a bag and we’re done.

Roasted Miso Eggplant 12

Posted on January 13, 2010 by Debra

Today I was a bit stuck on what I was going to roast!   So on the way home I stopped at small market… lo and behold,  they had the most lovely Indian eggplants.  These are super cute and about the size of an extra large hen’s egg.  Of course I forgot to take a photo of them before I started preparation.  I’m still not used to cooking with a camera in one hand. :)

Yellow Insalata Caprese Bento Comments Off

Posted on September 04, 2009 by Debra

I hate it when I run out of my favorite bento stuffers. Okinawan Sweet Potato, I believe is the best for providing high voltage color to a bento box. The. Best. Purple. Ever. See yesterday’s post for reference. I’m out of stock and will need to pay a visit to my nearest Asian grocery store. Central Market carries OSP, so does H-Mart, ‘cept they call it KSP. My substitute purple is provided by purple “bell” peppers. Crisp and cool.

Nope, not a Tomato. Comments Off

It’s an eggplant. How cool are these? I don’t know the variety and neither did the vendors. They were so beautiful; how could any bento maker resist? They lost their color a bit after cooking but not their taste! Yummy with curry sauce and placed in the square bento box. Along with the eggplant is a 2 egg tamagoyaki, namasu made with those carrots in the photo, figs, saturn peach and those ubiquitous champagne grapes.
