New Experience-Southern Cooking 9
I recently returned from a trip to the southern portion of the US. Specifically the gulf coast. Warm weather, friendly people and good eating. Guess what my favorite thing to eat was?

While I was on vacation last week I had the opportunity to pack a couple of real school -lunch bentos!
They were for two very sweet high school students who were gracious to indulge me with my hobby. Okay, obsession.
Their mom said they eat about anything but I kept things pretty basic with teriyaki chicken, fried rice, tamagoyaki, cucumbers and sliced tomatoes.
Luckily for me their pantry had a stash of containers and I was able find these…a perfect size!
Everything worked out great and I heard that the kids enjoyed their bentos that day!

Japanistic – cool, fun, well-designed Japanese bentos and other products!
It’s a melancholy moment when I pack an in-flight bento. But happy memories overshadow the sad good-byes especially when I include foods that are reminiscent of the fun-filled visit!
Salmon is de-riqueur for a Seattle-style lunch and Rainier cherries from our trip to the farmers market evoke happy flashbacks of a enjoyable vacation!
That alone should conjure desires for return trip…and to seal-the-deal…I added baked chicken, sautéed asparagus, steamed carrots, tomato, white rice and a luscious chunk o’ purple sweet potato!

The first thing you’ll notice about the food at “Bobby’s Hawaiian Style Restaurant” is the lack of greens! Unless of course you order the lau lau! But I’m not complaining…it’s the nature of Hawaiian-style food and it’s delicious!
Taking a pause between my “back-to-school” bentos…here’s an in-flight lunch that I packed for a departing house guest using produce we found while sightseeing!
Don’t let these dreary skies fool you! An hour after this shot…it would be a glorious day!
Ever wonder why Las Vegas is also called “Sin City”? Is it the booze, gambling or night-life? Nope, it’s all the sugar!
As some of you know, my Mom lives in Hawaii but meets me in Las Vegas, Nevada at least once a year. And while in Vegas we go to eat at Makino!
Not a “bento post” but if you are interested in viewing some snaps from my recent Nanaimo Bar Quest. You can see them here. http://nanaimoandvictoriabconthemercury.shutterfly.com/
