Chicken Adobo and Rice Bento
Wow, it’s been a long time since the last bento box post! But vacations are now over and we are all back to work. To ease his way back to the grind…Saba Man will be taking a “comfort food” bento lunch of chicken adobo and rice.
There’s two chicken thighs sans bones in one tier along with black grapes. The shiso leaf seperates the flavors and I’ve added some fancy-schmancy enoki mushroom with crispy-fried chow mein flourishes…just for fun.
The bottom tier is plain white rice blanketed by toasted nori. The leaves are cut from a slice of Amber Cup squash which I baked yesterday for bento stash.
The recipe for the adobo marinade is here. You can substitute pork or chicken for the recipe. Enjoy!

Total yummers. I’d take either tier by itself but both together? Perfection.
Hi sherimiya, Chicken and rice makes everything nice eh!? Thanks.
Now that is what I call bento peace. Gorgeous, balanced, visually pleasing, yum!
Thank you Heather for your sweet comments.
Amazing bento! Love the amber cup squash.
I wonder how the shiso leaf taste … never try it before and I don’t know where to find it here. But it must be good!
Hi Lina, Shiso leaf has a strong flavor. Like basil and mint mixed together. Hard to describe, but delicious. Thanks for your kind comments.
Yummy, comforting flavors (shiso/adobo is brilliant) and I love the dramatic arrangement of this artistic bento, Debra
Hi Jenn, Thank you!
Absolutely gorgeous! And it looks yummy, too!
Thanks Wendy! SM said it tasted good so I guess this bento was a success!
Perfectly presented comfort food, and I’m sure it’s equally delicious. And thanks for the tip on the leaf impressions : it completely changes the appearence of the cut outs, making them even more pleasing to the eye.
Hi Ingrid, Thanks for your sweet comments!
Oh wow, so pretty. Love those leaves.. and I love these long, skinny boxes.
Thank you Chantale! The long skinny boxes are nice.
Debra, I always admire how sophisticated, clean, and beautiful your bentos are — this is just another example of that. Plenty of gourmet tastes, striking color combinations, and beautiful presentation.
You’ve made such good use of this box’s form! Looks great!
