Amuse-ubi Bouche
Tee hee…this mix of white rice and black forbidden rice created such a lovely color that couldn’t resist making tiny little musubi!
A cutemorsel of flavor with ebi fumi furikake sprinkled on top…and voila, “amuse bouche“ or as I like to call it ”amuse-ubi bouche”
possibilities
This previous bento has a few other examples using a saffron rice mixture. I am attracted to this concept of bite sized rice balls and need to explore further.
Another awesome mini-method is temarizushi, which is ball- shaped sushi like I did for this saba bento. The difference? It’sthe rice. Musubi or onigiri rice is not flavored with the vinegar-dashi-mirin sushi mix.
So many possibilities with the summer season around the corner… these finger foods are perfect for a picnic or baseball game!

Besides the cute factor, they’re great for those who aren’t big rice eaters. Love ‘em!
Hi sheri! That’s a good point. But being raised on rice… I’m amazed that there are peeps who don’t like it! No offense to Misterman!
These are so great! So cute too! I just found some black rice, but wanted to wait to buy it until I knew how to use it. Perfect timing
Hi Lyndsey! Thanks and I’m glad for the timing of this black rice post!
“I am attracted to this concept of bite sized rice balls and need to explore further.” Indeed! I am in love with this cute and oh so pretty mini musbubi/dainty round bento foods concept! Thanks for the squeee! of inspiration, Debra!
And as further proof of synchronicity in bentoland, I was pondering ebi fumi furikake mix at H-Mart (for the first time ever!) a couple of hours ago…wish I had purchased. Next time
Hi Jenn, Thanks! Oh, too bad the sychro-vibes weren’t turned up full blast! This furikake is a pretty with it’s pink and yellow flakes. Hope you picked something else that’s equally yummy.
Ha, make that “musubi”!
they look sooo good!! I think its time I got into this Bento phenomenon..My girls would love it!
Hello and Welcome Chef Dennis! Thank you for your kind comments. And yes, please start making bentos and share the results with us!
great idea!! Like Lyndsey I too recently discovered black rice and I’ve been trying to come up with creative, bento ways to use it. Thanks!
Thanks Cat! Glad to hear that my black and white rice combo has inspired you!
