Elph’s Bento Box

Posted on April 13, 2010 by Debra

Look what arrived in the mail today!  This awesomely cute “Elph’s Circus” bento box from Japanistic!

I’ve been collecting a lot of boxes lately so yes, you can say I’ve been on a “bento binge”!   My bento-gear cupboards are overflowing… but how could I resist this unique looking bento box!  Very colorful and cute, perfect for child’s meal or a snack box!

And this snack is for …guess who?  Yep, it’s for Saba Man and contains a hard boiled egg, inarizushi, edamame, takuwan, radish, tomatoes and carrots!   I decided on nori punched bears (for egg details) to go with the bear motif on the cover but I may have to hunt down an elephant punch soon!

But besides the stylish cover art, another super  feature of this bento is that it has a bit of  ”head room” so when I close the box… the lid doesn’t smash the contents.

Love. It.

I’m excited to have Japanistic  as a supporter of the hapa bento blog  as they have some cool and well designed Japanese items!  If  you haven’t yet visited their site please take a look.  Their BPA free bento boxes are adorable and they have quite a few that I’ve never seen before.  Like the Elph and Elpha line.  Who doesn’t love a cute elephant?   Japanistic also offers free shipping for orders over $50.00!

Hey! Wouldn’t some radishes cut into mushrooms look really cool in this box?  I’ll  have to remember that for next time…

Yeah, I’ve seen lots of new companies making bento boxes, in my local Kinokuniya. Yours is adorable! Isn’t it awful how large their selection is? You could go broke with all the styles and options!

    • Debra says:

Hi sheri, I know… with bento boxes becomming more and more popular, I’m finding it difficult to say, “I already have that one”…

  2. Susan says:

That is the cutest elephant box!!! Gorgeous bento with the cute nori bear egg! I took a peek at the Japanistic store and it’s so cute!!!

    • Debra says:

Thanks Susan! For complimenting my bento and visiting Japanistic. Don’t they have the coolest stuff!?

  3. Lia Chen says:

The box is so cute! Wondering how many bento boxes do you have now in total? I remembered Pikko’s bento box attacks … and then you and Saba Man will be the next? LOL :D Lovely bento Deb! SM is lucky to have this. He loves the cute things too?

    • Debra says:

Hi Lia, Thanks! I don’t have nearly as many boxes as Pikko! But I do have a lot of them. ;) I wouldn’t say that he loves cute, but Saba Man is tolerant of the cute things! :P

this new box is sooooo cute, i love the elephant AND the bear AND the mushroom, so many possibilities for filling in a way that matches. you have done a great inaugural use – i LOVE the repeating pattern on the bear egg, and topping inarizushi with takuwan is an idea i MUST taste. thanks for the link to the new gear site (#enabler!)…

    • Debra says:

Hi gamene! Yes, I’m a enabler. But my motives are to have fun! Thanks for you sweet comments. I bet you could do some serious bento magic with this one Megan!

    • Debra says:

Thanks bentobird! Thanks, I’m challenged by the kawaii-ness but I’m having fun with it. Squeee…back at you!

  6. Angeleyes says:

Nice and cute box! I can’t resist buying if I’m you!!!

Was just wondering if Saba Man is a small eater?

    • Debra says:

Hi Angeleye! Thanks and no, Saba Man is not a small eater. This is just one of his snack boxes.

  7. Ingrid says:

The cutest box, and any box that doesn’t squish its contents is just awesome. With all the boxes around these days, it is indeed hard to keep saying no. Two solutions : stop buying boxes or expand your storage. I’m looking for new cupboards ;-)

    • Debra says:

Hi Ingrid, I know what you mean about needing more cupboards! I actually packed away some of the dinnerware that I never use just so I could store more bento boxes! I love this new box, very well made too!
