Flower Power Bento Box

Posted on February 22, 2010 by Debra

Today I learned on Twitter that it was “National Cook a Sweet Potato Day” and that’s just what I did!

Purple sweet potato simmered in shoyu and mirin was my choice before deciding to shape  into flowers so most of the yummy shoyu flavored pieces were cut off.   It was a battle of  “pretty versus flavor” … you can see who won!   The flower motif of this Yamanaka bento box was my inspiration so I really didn’t have a choice!  :P

Mini musubi with toasted sesame seeds, boiled egg, pea pods and tomatoes complete the bottom tier.

Can you guess what’s  in the top tier?  If you guessed salmon you would be correct!  (We still have a few more patties in the freezer.)  :)   Cucumbers, more pea pods, and carrots accompany the lone strawberry.  And one more purple blossom  is in there too!

I can’t wait to read  tomorrow’s  “food of the day”  tweet… I’m hoping it’s salmon!
