Superbowl Snack Hijiki Inarizushi Bento
Saba Man and I hit the stores this early Superbowl Sunday morning to get all the errands done so we could r e l a x for the remainder of the day. Costco first, right as the doors opened and the line was very long, then the “Clean Water” car wash, next was Sears followed by the Nordstrom Rack, and finally Trader Joe’s… and it was packed with shoppers! Who knew that “Trader’s” would be the mecca for Superbowl snacks? But a word about why we went to Sears. We are in the market for a new refrigerator as our current one is on it’s last wheezing breath. It’s an old relic of the 1980’s that needs to be retired.
We have to decide very soon. My fear is that I’ll open the freezer and all my bentostash will be thawed. That would mean bento box lunches for everyone!
In the meantime… today’s featured bento box is for Saba Man’s Superbowl halftime snack. Roast chicken breast, brown rice and hijiki seaweed inarizushi and some carrot sticks. I packed this to insure he received some nutrition other than potato chips, peanut butter stuffed pretzels, and ice cream!
As you can see there’s no football theme. My creative juices were not aligned with the stars today.
The better news is that we saved a ton of money today by not buying Sunday morning breakfast, take-out banh mi for the game, coffee and other yummy ready-to-eat deli foods. We did good and saved about $50.00 dollars towards the $avings Challenge… err “Refrigerator Fund”.

Wow! Such a treat for the eyes and the tastebuds. Way healthier than our choice. Good job on the savings!
Thanks for you nice comments. Yep, the savings are adding up.
Debra, I love the idea for this bento presentation. Superbowl bento in the ’superbowl’ … you are creative!! The savings challenge is going strong but no coffee really?
I’ve been making my own coffee and drinking green tea instead of buying coffee.
Can’t wait for March 1st. Thanks for the nice comments. I didn’t even think about the bowl being “super”. LOL Another MRB trick!
Beautiful bento and the bowl is absolutely lovely! Great way to present the food.
