Commuter Bento Box
Sometimes just a plain bento box is required. Nothing fancy, a pragmatic commuter snack that can be eaten sans utensils and without fuss. Today’s featured bento box is exactly that; “Hapa rice” musubi with takuwan and some edamame. That’s it. Simple to make, easy to eat. Now I am not advocating eating while driving and Saba Man does most of his ”on the road” noshing in the parking lot before he hits the freeway. But he could certainly eat this while in motion, if he was on the bus, train or with a carpool. Nothing to spill, no liquids or mess.
Other suggestions for a commuter snack bento are: sliced apples, boiled eggs, chunks of tamagoyaki, mini chicken drumettes, and strawberries! Do you pack snack bento boxes? If you do, what is the purpose and what kind of goodies do you include?

tee hee, love your use of the word nosh! and this is a great bento – reminding us how simple and practical meals can still be elegantly presented!
Aw, your rice looks like little boats
Hmm… yes, sometimes I pack snack bentos. I usually use sandwiches for them, added with some kind of cookie and fruits like apples or nashi, so it doesn’t soak into the sandwich.
Thank you for the wonderful ideas for commuter snacks. I do pack a snack bento a lot of times, especially if I know it’s going to be a crazy day. I do a lot of things that don’t require utensils, like sliced fuits and veggies, wraps, little treats like steamed gyoza, and onigiri wrapped with nori. I think my favorite snack bento is onigiri with umeboshi. I crave that in the afternoons a lot! Your snack bento looks so much fresher and yummier than grabbing some fries at the local fast food restaurant!
