Too Many Bento Boxes, Not Enough Space

Posted on October 11, 2009 by Debra

I wish for a bigger kitchen,(don’t we all?) Or rather, a “user friendly kitchen”… how about a “bento friendly” kitchen. Yeah, that would work. But bigger would mean more stuff and “more stuff” I already have, in the shape of bento boxes and the “pile of cute Daiso items”. A serious addiction to say the least and it’s not looking good in the small, outdated kitchen of my home. Please don’t judge me, some of the boxes were gifts! It wouldn’t be so bad if I was a tad bit more organized, but alas, immediately putting things away is not my strong suite and the ever growing collection of bento boxes are taking over. The before and after photos are of the main cupboard’s bottom shelf where dinner plates used to live. I added a riser and a basket to keep it somewhat neater. You will notice I removed all the matching lunch bags. Those are now stored separately. Gosh, I don’t need a bigger kitchen… I need an intervention!

Wow, I'm impressed of all those nice boxes! Don't tell me you don't have enough space in your kitchen ;) You are lucky, you have a storeroom. I must put my bento stuff in a separate box on a shelf in my dining room.
And you are so lucky, getting boes as presents ;)

Well, my dinner plates are in a box, ready for next years garage sale! I had too many of those also. Maybe I should sell some of my boxes at the same garage sale.

haha, the intervention line was great! i, too, had to turn an entire shelf into bento territory (i sacrificed my former tupperware and mixing bowl space to the bento gods). and that's just boxes! curious to know what you do with all your picks, cutters, etc. (i had to wall mount a cabinet/organizer thingy from the hardware section at KMart)!!

Oh my, my picks and cups are in here. The Spanks Box I'm too ashamed to take a recent shot, so use your imagination. The lunch bags are stashed in a larger shopping bag and hanging on my pantry door knob. It's not bragging, it's really sad to be both addicted and unorganized.

  5. gamene says:

oh i forgot all about the spanx box, that's right — i love it! good for you — you are more organized than you are giving yourself credit for!

Too many bento boxes? Can such a thing even exist?

Seriously, though, I’ve had good luck with a plastic storage tote. Accessing all my bento supplies from above allows me to use the space more efficiently, since I don’t have to worry about them spilling out when I open it up.
